Course description:

In recent years there has been a steady movement towards outsourcing an increasing range of products and services and Supply Chain Management has becore a core business activity.

Traditionally, Western Industrial organisations have remained remote from their suppliers through reliance on 3rd party supplier certification schemes such as ISO 9001:2000.

Whilst there has recently been a trend towards long term collaborative relationships, adversarial policies have by no means disappeared but the apparent current large scale defection from ISO 9001:2000 has increased the need for closer relationships and for 2nd party auditing skills.

With the coming of the internet, intranets and extranets, supply chains are becoming increasingly more and more transparent in as much that the customer can interrogate both finished goods inventory and work in progress.

Supplier evaluation systems and vendor rating programmes are now becoming integral parts of Supply Chain management and Business Performance Improvment programmes

The course includes details of the application of continual improvement and lean management principles and their integration with Supply Chain Management and other related Management Systems.

Course objectives:

To enable participants to develop and maintain a world class Supply Chain Management System.

A key feature of the course will be a simulated live 2nd party audit in which participants will learn how to prepare, conduct and report on the second party audit of a potential supplier.

The audit will be carried out against the requirements of the new version of ISO 9000 but could equally be applied to other business management systems

Emphasis will be placed on discussions aimed at ascertaining alternative solutions to potential problems in this field and the continual improvement of supplier capabilities.
