Risk Management Training Courses

Almost every day we hear news of some natural disaster, terrorist attack, company collapse,  fire, explosion plane crash, motorway pile up, major Product Recall etc. We hope that these things will never happen to us or to our friends and famililies but for some of us it does and we know, that some time in the future it may be us.

These however are not the only risks. There is always the risk of a competitor coming up with a product that makes ours obsolete overnight. For example, the data projector which destroyed the market for both overhead projectors and the acetate film business, the calculator replacing the slide rule, the electric light relacing the oil lamp and so on.
Then there are the risks of war, terrorism, government legislation, currency values, labour unrest, the list is almost endless.
What then must we do about it? We know that if we try to protect ourselves against every eventuality we might never get out of bed but that could be a problem as well! Clearly, between the extremes of doing nothing to protect ourselves and at the other by taking no risk at all is, we believe, the right place to be but where is that? The following course will provide many of the answers

  • . David Hutchins International are leading consultants in Hoshin Kanri,  Six Sigma Strategy and Policy Deployment, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Risk Management including ISO related training and Implementation and relevant leadership and People development.

In some cases, the choice is left to us but in cases where our choice affects the lives of others, we may be given less choice. Such cases involve a variety of Standards and regulations with which by law or the dictate of our customers we may be compelled to comply. These risks include those related to Product (or Service) quality levels  Environmental  and Safety as well as the well known Financial controls, particularly those resulting from the Enron enquiry.

In order to reduce risk, we often use 100% inspection. However, research data suggests that using human beings to do this will allow atl least 10% of defectives to pass. The reason is that humans are not perfect. There are many reasons fro human failure in this respect, some relate to the individuals and groups, some are task related and others relate to environmental factors. Our course on Visual Inspection considers all of these factors and in almost all presentations of the course, has led to significant improvements in inspection performance.

Integrated Management Systems

All of our courses, particularly those included in this section, whether specifically 'Quality' related, Safety, Environmental etc. are compatible with the concept of 'INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS'. The reason being that we cannot envisage an organisation being perceived to have a quality reputation whilst polluting the environment or uncaringly putting either its employees or public in general at any kind of risk. If the DHI approach to Hoshin Kanri is followed, then all of these and other management issues will automatically be developed in an integrated approach. In fact DHI have consistently applied this thinking ever since it was first established under the name David Hutchins Associates in the late 1970s.
