Other hotels

Further afield. For car drivers Kidderminster is not so far from central Birmingham which has most of the well known international hotels many of which are on the south side of the city centre. There are many on the Hagley Road which leads from the centre in the direction of Kidderminster. Then slightly closer are Bromsgrove, Worcester and several other towns.

Historic Britain.

Kidderminster is fairly close to the England/Wales border which has some of the loveliest scenery in Britain and also much history with picturesque castles and the famous half timber buildings mentioned in David Hutchins chapter 'A history of Quality in the United Kingdom' in Dr Jurans famous book 'A History of Managing for Quality. The book also gives reference to Bliss Hill near Telford to the north which is the site of Abraham Derby's discovery of rapid methods for the production of cast iron which heralded the Industrial revolution. Slightly nearer is the famous Iron bridge  which was cast at Derby's foundry at Coalbrookdale Ironworks which is part of the local museum.

To the East of Kidderminster it is not a long drive to Stratford on Avon and the home of William Shakespear. Quite apart from the theatre, the town itself is beautiful.

Birmingham itself is surrounded by the history of the Industrial Revolution and the origins of its once famous automotive industry. There is the famous Motorcycle museum to the South and the Black Country Museum to the West. Slightly further North at Stoke on Trent (not forgetting Worcester to the South) is the heart of Britain's pottery industry and a visit to the Visitors Centre at Wedgwood at Barlaston is not to be missed especially if you bring children.

To the South of Kidderminster and north of Hereford which has a beautiful Cathedral, for music lovers especially this is Elgar country with the famous Black and White trail. This is tour around picturesque half timbered buildings dating back to before the end of the first millenium. Quite apart from the sightseeing, the beer is pretty good too and the pub food is designed to help you put on the extra half kilo!

If you have even more time, then a run down the motorway to Bristol and its shipping museums would finish off the journey.
